Red Columns

A remarkable living and dinning space set over a few different levels with an impressive stairwell in the middle. This space is drenched with light coming in from the stairwell. I love the decoration in this room using the traditional color combinations of red, black and white you really can’t go wrong.

How great are those bright red painted columns going through the room, it lends the room an Eastern vibe!

Have a look at the entire room to get a real idea of this space.

Iris Apfel Manhattan Apartment

My heart surged when reading Architectual Digest I came across the weird and wacky, eclectic and bohemian Manhattan apartment of style icon Iris Apfel.

But style is like charisma. You know it when you see it.

by Iris Apfel

This fact is evident the minute you enter her three-bedroom Manhattan apartment, a Park Avenue aerie she shares with her husband, Carl, that looks a little as if the Collyer brothers had moved in with Madame de Pompadour. To the right of the front door, two stone pedestals piled with art books flank a Baroque console topped by a chinoiserie mirror. Eighteenth- and 19th-century dog portraits line a corridor leading to the bedrooms, and in the boiseried living room, an antique carving of a French mountain dog holds a platter brimming with costume jewelry. Everywhere there are exquisite French chairs, painted Genoese chests, antique paisley shawls, New Mexican santos, and much, much more.

I am so excited to share these images, so much fun, style and color in the one space!

Richard’s Living Rooms

I was just browsing through the most magnificent images of interiors shot by photogrpher Richard Powers. I will post some of the living / lounge rooms that Richard Powers has photographed which to me are totally inspiring and jaw dropping!

I will start with this bohemian lounge room. So many rich and textured elements in here. Look at the walls, the door frames, the mirrors, the windows, the rugs! Ohh I just love rooms like this.

No surprise that this room would steal my heart. Columns, high ceilings and floor to ceiling windows, well those elements alone just knock me out!

Take a look at the other interior design wonders that caught my eye!

Which space do you like best?

White with Earthy Accents

A contemporary and modern living room in white with stunning red and orange (warm colored) accents giving an earthy vibe to the modern white space. Beautiful living space with high ceilings and huge skylight!

And this amazing red rug is definitely a popular one! Today while flicking through Architectural Digest Espagna No38, Jul-Aug 2009 I came by this same rug in a different room.

Religious Icon Design

Flicking through a copy of Inside Out July/August 2010 Australia, I came across an eclectic home covered in religious iconography. A perfect example of finding beauty in gaudiness.

Teresa has developed a look that’s decidedly European, but with a personalised twist. Her skills lies in what she calls cambio – to change and transform things. And by her own admission she’d rather things be “a little bit of ugly, to be reborn beautiful again”…Iconography plays a big part in her overall scheme, which she puts down to her Catholic childhood, when she was surrounded by crucifixes, Bibles and weeping Madonnas in her family home.
